Returning your company laptop (exit, lease end or 3-year refresh)
IT Processes · 1 views
You will be asked to return your laptop in three situations: you are leaving the company, the device's lease is ending (our vendor recalls devices), or it is being replaced under the 3-year refresh. The process is the same:
1. Wait for the return instruction. IT will contact you (or your offboarding case will show the step) with where and how to return — office handover desk or a courier reverse-pickup for WFH.
2. Before handover, back up and clean up:
- Move any personal files off the laptop (they are wiped after return).
- Sign out of personal accounts (browser profiles, WhatsApp Web, iCloud on MacBooks — VERY important: remove the device from Find My iPhone/iCloud, otherwise the MacBook is locked and unusable, and charges apply).
- Do NOT wipe/format the laptop yourself — IT does a certified wipe.
3. Return the full kit: laptop, charger (both parts), and bag if issued. Missing accessories are billed by the lease vendor and can be recovered as per policy.
4. Condition check: the device is inspected on receipt. Normal wear is fine; unreported damage found at return goes through the damage-recovery process, so report damage before returning (see the damage article).
5. Clearance: once the asset is received in good condition, IT clearance is marked on your offboarding case. For lease-end swaps, your replacement is issued at (or before) the same time so you are never without a machine.
Still stuck? Email [email protected] or raise a ticket from the Help Center — include your asset tag (sticker on the laptop) and a screenshot if possible.
