Broken screen or physical damage — how to report it
Hardware & Devices · 1 views
Accidents happen — a cracked screen, liquid spill, or a drop. Here is exactly what to do:
1. Stop using the device if there is liquid damage — power it off, unplug the charger, do not try to charge it. For a cracked screen you can keep using it carefully if it works.
2. Report it within 24 hours. Raise a ticket titled "Damage report — <asset tag>" with: what happened (honestly — it affects nothing except the repair route), when and where, and 2–3 photos of the damage.
3. What happens next: IT opens a damage case, gets a repair/replacement estimate from the vendor, and tells you the plan. If the device is unusable you may get a standby laptop from stock while yours is repaired.
4. About recovery charges: depending on the damage assessment, a recovery amount may apply as per company policy — HR/Finance will communicate this if applicable. Reporting late or hiding damage always makes this worse; reporting promptly is always the right move.
5. Chargers, bags and accessories count too — report damaged/frayed charger cables immediately (they are a fire risk) and request a replacement from the Service Catalog.
Still stuck? Email [email protected] or raise a ticket from the Help Center — include your asset tag (sticker on the laptop) and a screenshot if possible.
