IS THIS THE RIGHT GUIDE FOR ME?
Yes, if you want to create a new, free, personal Microsoft Teams account and
sign up using an email address you already have — a Gmail, Yahoo, Rediffmail
or Outlook.com address. This is the free Teams signup for personal use.

No, if you need Teams for company use — there is a separate guide for
that (linked below).
This guide shows you how to create a FREE Microsoft Teams account using an email
address you already have — your Gmail, Yahoo, Rediffmail, Outlook.com, or any
other personal email. You do not need to create a new email address.

It takes about 5 minutes. Follow the green "Start the walkthrough" button above
and it will take you one step at a time.

BEFORE YOU START — three things to have ready

1. Your existing email address (for example [email protected]).
2. Your email password — you will need to open your inbox to read a code.
3. A phone or computer with a web browser. Chrome or Edge work best.

IMPORTANT — use a personal address, not your office one

Microsoft will not create a free personal account against a company domain. If
you try, it shows "You can't sign up here...". That is normal, not your mistake.

- Personal use -> use your Gmail/Yahoo/Outlook.com address. Stay on this guide.
- Company use -> follow the separate company guide instead.

THE SHORT VERSION (if you are comfortable with computers)

1. Go to https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-teams/free
2. Click "Sign up for free".
3. Type your existing email address, click Next.
4. Choose "For friends and family".
5. Create a password for your Microsoft account.
6. Enter your name, country and date of birth.
7. Open your email, find the code from Microsoft, type it in.
8. Complete the picture puzzle.
9. Done — Teams opens in your browser.

GOOD TO KNOW

- You are creating a "Microsoft account" using your existing email. Your email
stays exactly the same. Your Gmail keeps working normally. Nothing changes
about your inbox.
- The password you create here is a NEW password for Microsoft. It is not your
Gmail password, and it does not change your Gmail password. Write it down
somewhere safe.
- Free Teams is genuinely free. There is no card required and no trial that
expires. At the time of writing it allows group meetings of up to 60 minutes
with up to 100 people, plus unlimited chat. Microsoft can change these limits.
- You can use free Teams on a computer browser, or install the Teams app on
your phone from the Play Store or App Store and sign in with the same details.

IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG

"This email is already used as a Microsoft account"
Good news — you already have an account. Do not sign up again.
Go to https://teams.live.com and click Sign in instead.
Forgotten the password? Click "Forgot password" on that page.

The code never arrives in my email
- Wait 2-3 minutes; it is usually quick but can be slow.
- Check your Spam / Junk folder. In Gmail also check the "Promotions" tab.
- Search your inbox for the word "Microsoft".
- Click "Resend code" on the Microsoft page.
- Make sure you typed your email correctly on the earlier screen. One wrong
letter and the code goes to the wrong place. Go back and check.

The picture puzzle keeps failing
- Read the instruction carefully — it often asks you to rotate an object the
right way up, not just click it.
- Click the refresh/next arrow to get a different puzzle.
- Try a different browser, or turn off any ad-blocker for this page.

"You can't sign up here with a work or school email address"
You used a work email (like @iksula.com). Use a personal email instead,
or see the work-email article named above.

It is asking me for a company name / work details
You picked "For work" by mistake. Go back and choose
"For friends and family".

It says I am too young / asks for a parent
Microsoft applies an age limit based on the date of birth you entered.
Check you entered your date of birth correctly.

The page is stuck, blank, or keeps going in circles
- Try a private/incognito window.
- If you are already signed in to another Microsoft account in that browser,
sign out of it first. Two Microsoft accounts in one browser is the most
common cause of this.
