Microsoft Teams with your Iksula email — sign in, join a meeting, and every fallback

Accounts & Email · 4 views · 🧭 Guided walkthrough

Let's get you onto Teams. Start at step 1 — as soon as something works, tap "That fixed it".

Short answer: your Iksula address is ALREADY registered with Microsoft as a work account. So the "Sign up for Teams free" button will refuse it with "You can't sign up here with a work or school email address." You don't need to sign up — you need to SIGN IN. This guide covers that, plus every fallback if it doesn't work.

=====================================================================
PICK YOUR PATH (start at the top — stop as soon as one works)
=====================================================================

Do you just need to attend someone else's Teams meeting?
|
+-- YES -> Path A: Join in your browser. No account, no install. (30 seconds)
|
+-- NO, I need Teams properly (chat, host meetings)
|
v
Path B: Sign IN with your Iksula email (NOT "sign up")
|
+-- Works -> Done.
|
+-- "Password is incorrect" -> Path C: reset your password
+-- "We couldn't find an account" -> Path D: ask IT to enable it
+-- "You can't sign up here..." -> you clicked Sign UP. Go back to Path B.
|
v
Still stuck -> Path E: raise a ticket (we'll sort it)

---------------------------------------------------------------------
PATH A - Join a meeting without any account (fastest, always works)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Open the meeting invite and click "Join the meeting now" (or the Teams link).
2. A browser tab opens. Choose "Continue on this browser" — do NOT install anything.
3. If asked, choose "Join as a guest".
4. Type your name (e.g. "Priya - Iksula") and click "Join now".
5. Allow camera/microphone when the browser asks.
6. You'll wait in the lobby until the organiser admits you.

Use Chrome or Edge. Firefox and Safari have patchy Teams support.
Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for. If you only ever attend meetings, you can stop here.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
PATH B - Sign IN with your Iksula email (the correct path)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Iksula's domain is registered with Microsoft, so your work address is already
a Microsoft "work or school" account. That is why signing UP fails — the address
already exists. Sign in instead:

1. Go to https://teams.microsoft.com
2. Enter your full Iksula address ([email protected]) and click Next.
3. IMPORTANT — if you are asked "Work or school account" vs "Personal account",
choose WORK OR SCHOOL ACCOUNT.
4. Enter your password.
NOTE: this is your MICROSOFT password. It is not necessarily your Gmail /
Google Workspace password — Iksula mail runs on Google, so the two are separate
unless someone set them the same.
5. If prompted to "Stay signed in?", choose Yes on your own laptop, No on a shared one.
6. Teams opens in the browser. To install the desktop app: click the "..." menu >
"Download the desktop app", or get it from https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-teams/download-app

---------------------------------------------------------------------
PATH C - "Your password is incorrect" / you never had one
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1. On the password screen click "Forgot my password".
2. Go to https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com
3. Enter your Iksula address and the captcha.
4. Choose a verification method and complete it.

If the reset page says "Your account doesn't have recovery methods set up" or
"contact your administrator" — stop. Self-service reset isn't enabled for you.
Go to Path E and raise a ticket; IT will reset it manually.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
PATH D - "We couldn't find an account with that email"
---------------------------------------------------------------------
This means the domain exists in Microsoft but YOUR user hasn't been created yet.
You cannot fix this yourself — you don't have rights to create the account.

Do this:
1. Double-check the spelling of your address, and that you used @iksula.com
(not @iksula.in, and not a personal Gmail).
2. If it's still not found, raise a ticket (Path E) asking IT to provision a
Microsoft/Teams account for you. Say which you need: just meeting access,
or full chat + hosting.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
PATH E - Raise a ticket (and what to tell us)
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Email [email protected] or use the portal. Include:
- The exact email address you tried
- The EXACT error message (a screenshot is ideal)
- Which path above you got to, and what happened
- Whether you need to host meetings or only attend

WANT A PERSONAL ACCOUNT INSTEAD?
=====================================================================
That is a separate process with its own guide. See the KB article
"Sign up for a FREE Microsoft Teams account using your existing email".

One warning: please don't create a personal Microsoft account on your Iksula
address. It makes a "shadow" account outside IT's control that has to be
untangled later when the company account is set up properly.

=====================================================================
COMMON ERRORS -> WHAT THEY MEAN
=====================================================================
"You can't sign up here with a work or school email address"
-> You are on the SIGN UP page. Your address already exists. Use teams.microsoft.com and sign IN.

"That Microsoft account doesn't exist"
-> You picked "Personal account" at the disambiguation prompt. Go back and pick "Work or school account".

"This username may be incorrect / we couldn't find an account"
-> Typo, or your account isn't created yet. See Path D.

"Your account or password is incorrect"
-> Microsoft password, not your Google one. See Path C.

"Need admin approval" / "contact your administrator"
-> Your admin must approve this. Raise a ticket (Path E).

"Sorry, we're having trouble signing you in" (loops forever)
-> Sign-in loop. Try an incognito/private window, or clear cookies for
microsoftonline.com and teams.microsoft.com, then retry. If you're signed
into a personal Microsoft account in the same browser, sign out of it first
— two Microsoft accounts in one browser is the single most common cause.

Stuck in the lobby / "waiting for the organiser"
-> Normal. The organiser must admit you. Message them if it's been a while.

Camera or microphone not working
-> See the KB article "Camera or microphone not working in Zoom, Google Meet or Teams".

=====================================================================
NOTE FOR IT
=====================================================================
Both iksula.com and iksula.in resolve as Managed Microsoft (Entra) namespaces —
i.e. the domains are already claimed in Microsoft, even though mail is delivered
by Google Workspace. Tenant ID for iksula.com: 2d4a91a4-eb44-436e-ba22-1565c00b4b90
(region AS). Consequences: consumer Teams "free" sign-up will always be rejected
for these domains; users must be provisioned in the tenant and sign in normally.
Watch for users creating unmanaged/"viral" personal accounts on the work domain —
those need an admin takeover to clean up.
