FAQ: Why was extra leave deducted? (the sandwich rule)
HR Guides · 4 views
If you took leave around a weekend or public holiday and more days were deducted than you expected, it's usually the 'sandwich rule'.
HOW IT WORKS
• A public holiday or weekly-off that falls in between (or immediately next to) an UNPLANNED leave is counted as leave too.
• It does NOT apply to leave that was properly PLANNED and APPROVED in advance. So the fix is to apply for such leave ahead of time and get it approved before the leave dates.
If you believe the rule was applied wrongly (for example the leave was planned and approved, or the day was your weekly-off mapped incorrectly), raise an HR request with the dates and it will be reviewed and corrected. See also 'Leave & Attendance policy (HRMantra)'.
